What a humidifier does, and when it helps here

An ultrasonic diffuser turns water into a cool mist using high-frequency vibration rather than heat, so it uses very little power and never gets hot. Uganda is humid for most of the year, so this is not a climate where humidifying a room is a medical necessity — but it does help in two specific cases: air-conditioned offices and bedrooms, which dry the air considerably, and the dusty stretch of the dry season, when the mist settles airborne dust. The rest of the appeal is the effect: flame and volcano models project a moving light through the mist.

Use the right water, and the right oils

Fill with clean or distilled water. Hard tap water leaves white mineral dust on nearby surfaces and scales up the ultrasonic plate, which is the most common reason one of these stops misting. Use only water-soluble or properly diluted essential oils; undiluted fragrance oils and anything oil-based will clog the plate and can damage the housing. Empty the tank if it will sit unused for more than a day or two — standing water grows a biofilm you do not want to atomise into a bedroom.

Cleaning

Once a week, empty the tank, wipe it out, and clean the ceramic disc at the base with a cotton bud dipped in white vinegar. That disc is the part that vibrates, and a film of mineral or oil on it is exactly what kills output. The whole job takes two minutes and is the difference between a unit that works for years and one that stops misting after a few months.

Humidifiers & Diffusers in Uganda — frequently asked questions

How much is a humidifier in Uganda?
Humidifiers and diffusers at Mars Kitchen Essentials run from about UGX 30,000 for a compact model to UGX 85,000 for a flame-effect fireplace diffuser.
Do I need a humidifier in Uganda's climate?
Not for most rooms — the climate is already humid. They are genuinely useful in air-conditioned offices and bedrooms, which dry the air, and during the dusty dry season. Many buyers choose them for the light effect and the fragrance.
What water should I put in a humidifier?
Clean or distilled water. Hard tap water leaves white mineral dust on surrounding surfaces and scales the ultrasonic plate, which is the usual cause of a unit that stops producing mist.
Can I use any essential oil in a diffuser?
Only water-soluble or properly diluted oils. Undiluted fragrance oils and oil-based blends clog the ultrasonic plate and can damage the housing.
